Study of the ship-propeller interaction is an important aspect of ship design. Fully-viscous CFD tools allow for an accurate resolution of the important flow features that characterize this complex interaction. The numerical approach is flexible and can fully resolve the free surface when necessary as well as a variety of propulsars and appendages that affect the flow.
Performance of propellers can be evaluated with CFD methods to generated thrust, torque, and propeller efficiency curves.
